Cottage Chair

The Upcycled Rattan Chair

For my first screenprinting project, we were tasked to use screenprinting as a means to create a finished product. To generate an idea, I thought of what materials I already had on hand, and what materials I could buy. I ended up finding an old rattan chair on Facebook Marketplace, with a sad little cushion that needed re-upholstering.

The first thing we needed to do was create samples, to figure out what we wanted to design.

Here is my final product! I screenprinted in a faux repeat pattern onto pink recycled linen, handpainted in some details, and stitched onto the cushion. For the smaller pillow, I screenprinted onto vintage floral fabric, stitched together as a pillow cover, and then added lace appliqué.
